There are a number of volunteering options available at Meals on Wheels, from meal delivery to office help to do at home activities and more! Youth can participate in volunteering either as a family effort or on their own. While many of our opportunities take place during the workweek, there are some options for afternoons or weekends. Most of our routes can be completed in an hour or less and are specific to roughly a 5 mile or less radius. Deliveries are made in your own vehicle. Routes may be picked up at our offices in Nanuet or at one of several drop off locations throughout the county. Deliveries are made Monday through Friday between the hours of 10am and 12:30pm. Frequency and scheduling of routes is flexible.

We can deliver meals to any Rockland County resident.

Our meals cost $8.25 per meal. You may arrange for one or two meals per day. The default meal consists of a hot lunch with a cold supplement, containing milk or juice, fruit and bread. The second meal is a cold meal containing, for example, sandwiches or wraps, salads, tuna, etc. You can view a menu of our hot lunches in the Home Delivered Meals section of the site HERE.

We can typically start meals within two business days. This however depends on how the meals are funded.  If a grant isn’t available, the client would be placed on a waiting list.  If requests are being made to a Managed Long-Term Care Medicaid, meals would begin when authorized. Self pay clients can receive meals within two business days.

We deliver meals Monday through Friday, including Holidays. Weekend meals can be provided during the week and are delivered frozen. Meals are delivered between 10am-12:30pm. Someone must be home and able to accept the meals each day.

We are able to offer a House diet (heart healthy, reduced sodium and consistent in carbohydrate for diabetic diets), Glatt Kosher, Kosher Style, Renal, Gluten Restricted and Vegetarian. We are also able to mechanically tailor for cut or pureed diets.  Food allergies can be accommodated. Each meal is designed to fulfill ⅓ of a senior’s nutritional requirements. We have an onsite nutritionist to discuss special needs.

We have a full commercial commissary in our Nanuet offices and prepare our meals on site.
